Free Classes in the Park

Discover the birds that call Bryant Park home, as well as those that may stop by during migration. A surprising diversity of avian visitors drop in, even in the heart of midtown. Sightings could include warblers, tanagers, vireos, thrushes, even an American Woodcock!

Bryant Park speaks French, Spanish, Japanese, and Italian with instruction by inlingua. Learn a new language or brush up on your skills in these standalone classes. Attend at any time - lessons are not cumulative.

Registration is required one week before class date to inlinguainBryantPark@inlingua.com. Limit 1 class per person per language. 20 student capacity per class.

Jazz pianist Jon Weber has recorded and toured all over the world, winning numerous accolades for performance and composition - and scoring extensively for television since 1987. Gary Burton, Roy Hargrove, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, and Avishai Cohen have all recorded Jon's music. His newest critically-acclaimed release, Simple Complex, rose to #1. Jon lives in New York City and hosts NPR's Piano Jazz Rising Stars, after frequently serving as guest host for Marian McPartland on NPR's Piano Jazz.

Tai Chi and Eternal Spring are instructed by members of the Tai Chi Chuan Center for all ages and experience levels.

Classes are rain or shine.

 

Come face to face with an Eclectus Parrot, gaze at a Macaw, or hold a Conure.

Exotic birds from the Arcadia Bird Sanctuary and Educational Center visit Le Carrousel every Tuesday* this summer, weather permitting.

Stop by to watch, ask questions, interact with the birds, or just take pictures. Sanctuary Director, Terri Jones, will be happy to introduce you to one of her sociable, people-friendly birds.

(*There will be no Meet the Birds on June 25 and July 2.)

A Note on Russ Kassoff
"Visit the deli wall of fame to see what I've really done"

Russ Kassoff is currently playing trio and solo jazz concerts, clubs, festivals, master classes and private parties. In 2013 Russ continues to perform in concert as conductor/pianist to Rita Moreno as well as Louise Pitre (Tony nominated for Mama Mia). In 2012 he was music director for a most touching gala event for the Pasadena Symphony & Pops in memory of Marvin Hamlisch. In 2010 he was the Conductor/Pianist on Broadway in Twyla Tharp's critically acclaimed Come Fly Away, featuring 15 magnificent dancers accompanied by a 19- piece big-band playing live to the voice of Frank Sinatra. Broadway also saw Russ as music director/conductor/pianist for Charles Aznavour in '98. Russ toured as pianist to Frank Sinatra by request from '80-'91- including the Ultimate Event tour with Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Liza Minnelli. He served as pianist/accompanist for Liza Minnelli from '82 -'01 and Minnelli's music director and conductor for the highly acclaimed Minnelli on Minnelli National Tour ('00). In '07, Russ appeared as a featured guest on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz on NPR. Since 2003 Russ has been music director/pianist to Rita Moreno and is a regularly featured performer at The Knickerbocker in NYC with Jazz legend Bucky Pizzarelli! (Next appearance there with Bucky is May 24 and 25 - same week as Piano In The Park!). His current CD Bird Fly By achieved #1 status on Music Choice, was in their top 10 for over a year, and has received much critical acclaim! On July 27, 2013 Russ's trio will appear with Jazz Master Sheila Jordan at the annual JazzPA festivalin Bellefonte, PA! My new Facebook Fan Page
