Chess & Backgammon

The Chess Area, located in the 40th Street Plaza, provides the public with chess, checkers, and backgammon boards for a small fee. The area is monitored by game aficionados from The Marshall Chess Club. Games can be arranged through the monitor, and tournaments and events take place throughout the summer.

Chess & Backgammon in Bryant Park are supported by the Marshall Chess Foundation.

Upcoming Chess Events

All ages (kids age 4+ and adults) can compete in one of seven skill and age sections. All sections are rated by the US Chess Federation except Beginner. There is no elimination! All players will participate in all four rounds of the tournament. Trophies, medals and cash prizes will be awarded to winners.

Pre-registration is recommended at Tri-State Chess. On-site registration opens at 9am on the morning of the tournament.
