Busy Month Ahead at Art Cart

May 1, 2019

Bryant Park Art Cart, located on the Fifth Avenue Terrace in front of the New York Public Library, is now open for the season, offering free materials and basic instruction to people of all ages looking to explore their creativity. It’s open daily, 11am–7pm, and is equipped with plenty of materials, including drawing pencils, coloring sheets, colored pencils, markers, sketch boards, and craft supplies.

Besides day-to-day operations, Art Cart also hosts a dynamic array of workshops, at which professionals offer valuable instruction and advice in various art genres. The special events schedule heats up this month with these exciting programs:

  • Kids’ Corner Art Workshops: Creative crafts for little hands, ages 12 and under, with new projects every week. Wednesdays, May 1 – September 25, 11:30am–12:30pm.

  • Photography with ICP: Learn photography techniques, using your own camera or smartphone, with instruction provided by our neighbor, the International Center of Photography. There are four sessions: Photographing Strangers, Candid and Posed on May 7; Photography Workshop on May 18; Smartphone Video Production Workshop on May 21; and Chasing the Light on May 28. Registration is required.

  • Salvador Dali’s Birthday Celebration: To celebrate the famous surrealist’s 115th birthday, the Art Cart hosts a series of arts and crafts projects on May 11. Free mustaches will be distributed while supplies last. 12pm–2pm.

  • Artist & Craftsman Workshops: 3D and Mixed-Media: This summer, the mixed-media workshops on Thursdays, May 16 and June 20, will focus on carving, from rubber stamps to soap sculptures! Check the Art Cart events calendar for more details soon.

  • AIGA Lunch-and-Draw: Shapes + Colors = NYC: American Institute of Graphic Arts and Bryant Park join to mark NYCxDesign with an interactive art experience on Friday, May 17, 7pm–9pm. Everyone is invited to take part and share visualizations of the city.

  • Live Model Figure Drawing: Returning for the third year, our popular Live Model Figure Drawing classes provide simple instructions to create drawings based on real life models. Classes take place Fridays, May 31 – July 26, 2pm–5pm. No class July 5.

All workshops and events at Art Cart are free and open to everyone. Most workshops and classes require registration, but we are usually able to accommodate walk-ups, so feel free to take a chance even if registration is filled!
