Help from Down Under for Found But Not Lost Program

October 17, 2018

On Valentine’s Day 2019, some lucky visitors to Bryant Park will be sporting scarves knitted 10,000 miles away, because Bryant Park KnitsFound But Not Lost program is going international.

Last July, Michele Bell, CEO at the Ku-ring-gai Neighborhood Centre (KNC) in Sydney, Australia, visited New York City as a guest of the NYC Department for the Aging. While in town, she participated in many activities for the aging but, as she explained in a letter to Bryant Park, her time at Bryant Park Knits was “…by far one of the most interesting and informative afternoons” she experienced while here.

Her letter continued “The diversity of ages, cultures, and genders of your group, such a cohesive group, was inspiring. Every person I spoke to saw themselves as a member of a unique and special community.” Ms. Bell’s organization especially loved what she referred to as the “scarves in the trees idea.” Immediately upon her return to Sydney, she went to work to help us out, and in September we were delighted to receive a donation of 38 scarves knitted by members of KNC.

There is not a single aspect of this story we don’t love and look at with a lot of pride. We thank Ms. Bell and her organization for this wonderful gift, and again tip our hat to Pearl Chin and Knitty City for developing such a heartwarming program.
