New York Magazine Covers Grace Bryant Park Fence

July 25, 2018

Our Movie Nights media partner New York Magazine is celebrating its 50th anniversary with “My New York,” a year-long series of events, the most important of which is 50 New York Covers: A Public Art Project which features specially-designed New York covers created by 50 renowned artists, each of whom have their own New York story.

The covers have been displayed in a variety of formats and sizes, from wild postings to street lamp banners, in neighborhoods throughout all five boroughs of New York City, and we are pleased that nine of them our now mounted on the 42nd Street fence at Bryant Park.

The installation includes covers by Robert Longo, Maurizio Cattelan, Joyce Pensato, Walton Ford, Peter Saul, Shirin Neshat, Katherine Bernhardt, Will Cotton, and Shantell Martin. As the text on the explanatory panels states, each cover “express[es] what New York City looks like to them [the artists] right now.” We like the juxtaposition of one New York institution with another. Be sure to take a long look the next time you’re walking past.
