Prothonotary Warbler Spotted

October 22, 2019

Despite its relatively small size, Bryant Park is a favorite spot for NYC birders. Not only do Birding Tours uncover a lot of species each session, but so do visitors who are in the park and looking on their own.

On October 10, a rare bird species was spotted at the park – the Prothonotary Warbler. The golden beauty rarely makes it to the big city, but when it does, it’s news. The last time the fabled warbler was spotted at Bryant Park was in October of 2010, and it created such a buzz that the New York Times wrote about it.

All told, 52 species have been spotted at Bryant Park since September 1, including those seen on our tours and others spotted by visitors. Overall, we’ve recorded an impressive 131 bird species at Bryant Park. Birding Tours are done for the season, but will return next spring.
