The Apiary is Buzzing

April 25, 2018

The bees are back. Bryant Park’s Apiary has returned to the northwest section of the park, refreshed with a new shipment of bees that will work hard all summer, pollinating our plants and making honey.  As the New York Times reported, the Apiary recently hosted the distribution of three million bees to local beekeepers, and we kept enough ourselves to keep our hives busy all summer.

Beekeeping classes are also returning. Anyone wanting to learn about the life of urban honeybee colonies and the vital role they play in the environment is invited to come to the Reading Room on the second Friday of each month through September. They are presented with the New York City Beekeepers Association, and participants have the opportunity to purchase local NYC honey after each class. The first of the year is on Friday, May 11, 12:30pm–1:30pm. If you just can’t wait to see what’s happening at the Apiary, take a peek any time, via our new Bee Cam.
