The American Symphony Orchestra is a New York-based American orchestra, founded in 1962, dedicated to providing great music for everyone. The ASO chamber series features musician-curated programs that represent the diverse perspectives across New York City and worldwide, through explorations of the many styles and genres of American music.

ASO’s jazz ensemble has performed numerous concerts dedicated to the great jazz composers of both the past and present, including Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Chick Corea, Count Basie, Charles Mingus, and many others. The ensemble’s next program will honor jazz trumpet virtuoso, innovator, and composer of more than fifty original compositions, including Cool Cart Blues, Don’t Forget to Mess Around, Here Me Talkin’ to Ya, If We Never Meet Again, and New Orleans Stomp, Louis Armstrong. In addition to his exceptional musical gifts as an instrumentalist and singer, he also performed in a leading role as an actor in the 1947 film musical New Orleans, along with the great legendary jazz vocalist Billie Holiday in her only but excellent acting role. From the 1947 film the program will include Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans, and The Blues are Brewin’.
