Bryant Park honors the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with an interactive display on the lawn. Each bistro chair placed will represent a life lost at the World Trade Center 25 years ago. Facing south, the installation will highlight a profound absence left in New York.
Members of the public are welcome to take part in this activity by writing a note, attaching it to a carnation, and placing both of a chair in the display. For the first 3,000 carnations left by the public, Bank of America will donate $25 per carnation, to be distributed between the New York City Police Foundation, FDNY Foundation, and Port Authority PBA Widows' and Children's Fund.
- You may only enter and exit the lawn display from the north side or the south side of the lawn. Entrances may be subject to temporary closures throughout the day.
- Carnations and notecards will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
- Based on the volume of attendance, you may experience a wait to receive materials and/or enter the lawn. Please be patient in allowing fellow attendees to view the display at their own speed.
- While you are on the lawn, we ask that you behave respectfully and courteously in interacting with the display and other attendees. Moving the chairs is strictly prohibited.
- From 2pm-4pm, there will be set-up for continuing evening programs in honor of the anniversary that will take place during the chair tribute.
- Entry to the lawn will close to the public at 3:30pm. Attendees may still view the display until 4pm.
The display will open at 8am and close to the public at 4pm. Please note that we will close entry to the lawn at 3:30pm, but guests may continue to view the display from the gravel until 4pm.
The tribute will be constructed on the Bryant Park lawn, centrally located in the park.
Registration is not required to attend or take part in this tribute. All are welcome.
Please do not move the chairs in the display from their set places. Chairs will be intentionally placed in order to best suit the nature of the tribute, including being directed south to face the World Trade Center.
We kindly ask that you do not bring additional materials to add to the display. We will distribute carnations and notecards on a first come, first served basis. You may write your own message or tribute onto the notecard once you receive it.
Picnic Performances: Tribute Concert with American Symphony Orchestra

Lawn opens at 6pm
Later that evening, join for our final Picnic Performance of the season. While serving as an occasion for remembrance and reflection, the evening's musical program also celebrates the enduring strength of the human spirit. This concert is free and open to the public, no tickets required.
