Bird Illustration: Field Journal Style

May 11, 2026, 2:30pm–3:30pm

Join us at the Art Cart for free workshops all summer long.

Inspired by World Migratory Bird Day, participants will illustrate birds found in NYC parks in May using pencil and colored pencil in the naturalist field journal tradition. Reference species are chosen to reflect birds actually present in the park during this migration window. NYC park birds commonly seen in May: American Robin, House Sparrow, Rock Pigeon, European Starling, Yellow Warbler (peak migrant), Baltimore Oriole (striking May migrant, very popular to paint), Red-winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing.
