Since coming to New York City in 1981, Pete Malinverni has performed locally at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, the Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, and Birdland to name but a few, as well as traveled the world giving proof to the statement “passionate music is indeed the universal language.” He is listed in Leonard Feather’s Encyclopedia of Jazz, appeared as a guest twice on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz (once alongside Elvis Costello), and has 16 critically acclaimed recordings to his name as a leader in piano solo, trio, quartet, quintet, big band, and choir formats. His latest, On the Town – Pete Malinverni Plays Leonard Bernstein, was several weeks in the top ten of international airplay on the JazzWeek charts. In addition, he is Head of Jazz Studies and teaches Jazz Theory, Harmony, and Improv at SUNY Purchase where he founded the 70-voice choir the Soul Voices and has been honored with numerous awards for student engagement and community service. Currently he is Director of Music at the Pound Ridge Community Church and conductor/pianist/composer in residence at Westchester Reform Temple, in Scarsdale.
